What Distinguishes a High-Quality Color Filter?

Color filters are characterized by the fact that only certain wavelengths of light can pass through the material, thus achieving a color effect. In stained glass windows, this effect has delighted the hearts of people for more than a thousand years. Of course, there is much more to our modern color filters than just beautiful colors. Here we would like to share the most important aspects that make our filters so outstanding:

A lot of light and a lot of color

The quality of a color filter is determined by the fact that a very high proportion of the desired wavelengths can pass through, and unwanted wavelengths are filtered out efficiently. In the field of color therapy, this means that the finely tuned color can have maximum effect, and in the field of blue light protection, that good transmission (light transmittance) is still achieved despite maximum protection.

Filter effect precisely adapted to the physiology of light

The expertise lies not only in manufacturing the filters so that only the selected light reaches the eye, but also in knowing exactly which is the right light for the particular application. This is precisely why we have brought a scientific advisor into our team.

Developed in collaboration with light expert Dr. Alexander Wunsch, MD.

Dr. Alexander Wunsch, MD, is a physician, scientist and non-fiction author specializing in photobiological and biophysical topics. He has been our expert for light health since 2007, and has been involved in the development of our BluelightProtect products from the very beginning.

Precisely adjusted colors for the Spectro Chrome method

In cooperation with Dr. Alexander Wunsch, MD, we have also adjusted and expanded the colors of our colored light glasses to exactly match the chromotherapy system of Dinshah P. Ghadiali, which has been in existence for over 100 years. The Spectro Chrome method is probably the most extensively documented use of colored light for health, and can now be applied via the eyes with our glasses.

The filter with its pigments determines the quality of the light that hits the eye, but the “surrounding” is also significant for the high quality of a filter.

High quality materials

Our filters are produced from a polycarbonate base. We source raw materials from leading manufacturers, and both the quality and safety of the materials are independently inspected on a regular basis.

Sensible design

Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic material, i.e. it can be shaped under the influence of heat. This allows us to offer eyeglass shapes that are precisely adapted to their usage. Colored light filters should surround the eye to avoid stray light and maximize the color effect. Blue light protection may also be fashionable, and especially for use on the screen, smaller filter lenses are quite sufficient.

Application-oriented coatings

A good color filter should provide long-lasting enjoyment. All of our filter glasses are hard-coated to prevent scratches and feature dirt-repellent Clean Coat technology for easy maintenance. This is sufficient for color therapy, but our BluelightProtect products will be worn for longer periods of time and visual comfort is even more of a priority. Therefore, we have decided to use an additional 7x super anti-reflection coating (OAR membrane), which avoids disturbing light reflections in the best possible way.

100% UV protection

While the importance of blue light protection is only slowly entering the general public’s awareness, the harmfulness of UV rays to eye health is undisputed. Therefore, it goes without saying that every single PRiSMA filter offers the highest UV protection, reliably filtering out 100% of both UV-A and UV-B rays.
