Understand Light – Strenghten Your Health

INNOVATiVE EYEWEAR has always been about more than just their products. From the very beginning, founder Reinhard Gerl has been committed not only to selling glasses, but also to educating and empowering people. Knowing how light and color affect your body and mind, helps you make conscious decisions for your own health.

Whether at health fairs, in lecture series or in direct discussions with specialist audiences – Reinhard Gerl has spoken about light, color and modern lighting at a wide variety of venues in recent years. The range is huge: from information evenings at the local building authority, for example on the effect of street lighting, to specialist lectures at the Norwegian Light Association or at international congresses.

The conviction that education is the best protection ist the basis of his work – and is more relevant today than ever. Sylke Gerl is equally committed to talking about the creative and energetic power of colors – in health settings, in everyday life and as part of a conscious lifestyle.

The lecture day “Wenn der Schein trügt…” (When appearances are deceptive…), which took place in March 2025 at the Landhotel Waldschlösschen in Brotterode, gives a particularly vivid insight. The event was organized by GERWIN a platform for true life values that is committed to holistic health, mindfulness and education.

🎥 The resulting video – kindly produced by GERWIN and shared with INNOVATiVE EYEWEAR – shows excerpts from both lectures:
Reinhard Gerl talks about the risks of modern LED light sources and gives practical tips on how to use artificial light in a healthier way.
Sylke Gerl focuses on the effect of colors – and shows how targeted color can positively support the body.

🎬 Insights into two topics that complement each other perfectly – and affect us all:

Healthy Light and the Power of Color

The Full Spectrum

This video shows more than just a lecture. It provides insights into the effects of light and color with a unique clarity. You can feel it in these short sequences: This is not about technology – this is about health, mood and quality of life.

Why does Reinhard Gerl measure through his own arm in the lecture? What does the spectrometer show that the naked eye cannot see? And how can colored glasses change your own perception in seconds?

The following texxt takes up some of the questions that arise while watching – with explanatory backgrounds, selected impressions from the lecture day and the knowledge that makes light and color really understandable.

Two perspectives – one message:
Reinhard Gerl explains how artificial light influences us in everyday life.
Sylke Gerl shows how targeted color can harmonize iour whole system.

Not All Light is Created Equal

How Much Light do People Need - and What Kind?

In the video, we see Reinhard Gerl using a spectrometer to measure light sources – at one point even through his own arm. An unusual scene that gives many viewers pause: Is he measuring the infrared light that passes through the body?
Yes – that’s exactly the point: not everything that constitutes light is visible to the naked eye.

Although modern LED light sources provide brightness, they leave out important components of the natural light spectrum – especially near-infrared light, which is abundant in light bulbs or sunlight. This invisible light has a profound effect at cellular level: it promotes blood circulation, stimulates the mitochondria and has been proven to support regeneration – including regeneration of the eyes.

Light that penetrates the body? Of course, every child who has ever shone a flashlight through their hand knows this effect.
Light and color have always inspired people and made them dream!

The Soul of Light

Colors Work!

What makes colors so special? They are more than just a beautiful surface. Colors are light in a specific wavelength – and therefore stimuli that our body perceives very directly. Whether we absorb them through our eyes or through our skin, colors influence our mood, our attention and our inner balance.

In her lecture, Sylke Gerl showed how deeply rooted this knowledge is – from heliotherapy, in which sunlight was used specifically for healing, to the development of modern color therapies that consciously use the visible spectrum. Color is not a simple scientific topic either: the distinction between light and body colors, additive and subtractive color mixing, spectral colors and perceptual colors shows how complex the interplay of light and color really is.

Particularly impressive in the video: People try on a pair of colored glasses – and suddenly their perception changes. You see a smile, a brief pause, sometimes even astonishment. The effect is often immediately noticeable – and this is precisely where the power of this experience lies.

“Thus the whole of creation shows a wonderful picture of the most glorious radiance of color, such as no painter could reproduce.”

This quote sums up what is almost impossible to grasp rationally: color is more than just color. It is expression, vibration, resonance.

In her lecture, Sylke Gerl also takes up the work of the Indian-American doctor Dinshah P. Ghadiali, who developed a structured color therapy called the SpektroChrom system, which at the time could only be implemented with expensive lamps.

This is where PRiSMA color spectacles come in and bring the system into the present with color spectacles – SpektroChrom is now accessible for everyday use and can be used by everyone without any technical hurdles.

Blue Light and Flickering

When Vision Turns Stressful

One of the focal points of the lecture: the excessive exposure to blue light from modern light sources – especially LED lighting and screens. While natural blue light can be helpful during the day, the balance can quickly get lost:
Too much blue light inhibits the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, and promotes the release of stress hormones such as cortisol. The result: sleep problems, inner restlessness – and in the long term, strain on the retina and lens.

This becomes clear in the video when Mr. Gerl shows a light spectrum – a measurement curve with a noticeable peak in the blue range.

Another, often neglected problem with artificial light is flickering.

Flicker frequencies, as they occur in many LED lamps or screens with PWM (pulse width modulation) technology, can cause headaches, burning eyes and concentration problems in sensitive people – often without the connection being recognized.

In the lecture, Mr. Gerl explains how even so-called “flicker-free” monitors often emit irregular light pulses. Particularly sensitive: children, people with migraines or ADD – they often react strongly to these stimuli. The topic is only briefly touched on in the video, but it is one of the most important “silent stressors” of our time.

Light stress is often not visible - but measurable!

Understanding Light – Staying Informed

Whether visible or invisible, cool or warm, beneficial or stressful – light is with us all the time. And yet we often know little about how much it influences our well-being. The lecture day in Brotterode showed how enlightening and enriching it can be to take a closer look – and to feel what colors and light qualities do to us.
