Color Perception and Blue Light Protection Glasses: How our Brain Handles “White Balance”
Remember how analog photos made interiors look bright orange in the light of incandescent bulbs? Even though we perceived the colors quite naturally! This is

The modern light sources that surround us – from LED lighting to screens – have one thing in common: they contain a high proportion of blue light. This light has a multifaceted effect both on our eyes and our bodies. It can strain the retina and cause long-term damage, contribute to premature ageing of the lens (cataracts) and influence the hormone system by suppressing the production of melatonin. The consequences can range from visual fatigue to sleep disorders.
To meet these challenges, we have developed four blue light filters that are specifically tailored to different needs. It’s not just about the strength of the filters, but also about the precise adjustment of the spectral distribution. In this way, each filter meets specific requirements – from maximum retinal protection to optimum color rendering. Let’s explore the thoughts and mechanisms behind our filter recommendations together.
Our PRO99 filter offers the strongest blue light protection, blocking virtually all light in the blue spectral range and providing additional filtering into the blue-green range. This filter therefore effectively protects the retina from harmful light and at the same time reduces the hormone-active spectra that can disrupt the sleep rhythm.
Why PRO99? This filter is ideal for evening applications where maximum regeneration is required. For example, when reading, watching television or working late. The additional reduction of blue-green light components makes it particularly effective for the hormone system. However, the color rendering is limited by the comprehensive protection, which makes the PRO99 less suitable for daytime applications. We recommend a brighter filter variant for daytime use.
Our LiTE95 filter was developed to protect the eyes from harmful blue light during the day without significantly impairing color perception. With 95 % protection in the 400 to 500 nm range, it offers optimum retinal protection while allowing greener light components to pass through, ensuring natural color perception and visual balance.
Why LiTE95? This filter is the perfect choice for screen work, watching TV or any other digital activity. It offers a balanced combination of protection and color reproduction. However, for people with pre-existing eye strain or for evening use, the PRO99 could be a sensible alternative, while the EASY90 is suitable for applications with particularly high demands on color perception.
Children’s eyes are particularly susceptible to blue light as their lenses are still crystal clear. The LiTE95 filter offers ideal protection here. It reduces the most harmful parts of the light without changing the color perception too much. We also recommend the LiTE95 filter for older children or teenagers who can wear adult frames.
Why LiTE95 for children? This filter protects children’s sensitive eyes in an increasingly digital world. At the same time, a healthy amount of daylight remains crucial to promote the natural development of the eyes. Therefore, blue light protection should be used specifically during screen time.
The EASY90 filter has been specially developed for applications where high color rendering is required – whether for gaming, multimedia or during the day in mixed lighting conditions. With 90% blue light filtering, it offers protection against the most harmful light components, while its lighter tint ensures natural color perception.
Why EASY90? This filter is the ideal choice for gamers and multimedia users. It offers clearer colors and greater visual comfort without sacrificing retinal protection. However, if you are sensitive to blue light or plan long screen sessions, the LiTE95 may be a better alternative.
The DRiVE85 filter was specially developed for road traffic. With 85% blue light filtering and 87% light transmission, it reduces glare from LED and xenon headlights and improves contrast detection. At the same time, signal colors remain clearly visible, making it the perfect choice for day and night driving.
Why DRiVE85? This filter has been designed specifically for use in road traffic. Its properties are therefore not only optimized for comfort, but also for safety – without compromise. Alternative filters are not suitable for this application.
Spectral data describes how a filter glass transmits, reflects or absorbs light of different wavelengths. This data is key to assessing protection against harmful light, color rendering and visual comfort.
Using our own highly developed measurement technology, we analyze the spectral properties of filter glasses down to the smallest detail. While conventional industry standards only take basic aspects into account, we go beyond this and examine the finest details in the spectral composition. In this way, we uncover subtleties that are crucial for the exact coordination of filter effect, color rendering and ultimately the superior performance of a blue light protection filter.
Thanks to this precise coordination, we achieve a harmonious interplay that offers maximum blue light protection, has as little impact as possible on color rendering and maintains visual comfort at the highest level – a decisive advantage, especially for long-term use in a wide range of applications.
Our technology makes it possible to tailor the properties of the filter lenses to different areas of application and individual needs. Whether for relaxation in the evening, concentrated screen work or other specific requirements, our approach ensures that every solution offers the ideal balance of protection, color perception and visual comfort.
Our innovative measurement process sets new standards in blue light protection – for a visual experience that harmoniously combines technical precision and visual quality.
