SpektroChrom – a Color System for Everyday Use

The targeted use of colors has a long tradition dating back to ancient times. Colors were used as pigments in rooms and materials, as well as in symbolic, ritual, and medical contexts. Time and again, people have classified, described, and systematized colors for this purpose.

SpektroChrom is one of the best-known color systems. It is clearly documented and logically structured. Originally, it was developed as a method for applying colored light, using filters placed in front of irradiation lamps and directed at specific areas of the body.
This article looks at how this color logic is used today and why the eyes play an important role in that process.

Color Therapy

From Antiquity to Dinshah

Color therapy approaches have been documented historically in many cultures: in ancient times, colored rooms were used in which daylight was directed through colored fabrics or materials. In the Middle Ages, Hildegard von Bingen described color qualities in a medical context. Later thinkers such as Goethe also approached the effect of colors from a systematic perspective.

At the beginning of the 20th century, SpektroChrom emerged as one of the most consistent and comprehensively documented color systems in this tradition.

Indian-born physician Dinshah P. Ghadiali arranged colors in a logically structured circle and described their application in detail and systematically.

What makes SpektroChrom distinctive is not the interpretation of individual colors, but the completeness and coherence of the system itself. To this day, it provides a clearly defined framework for working with color and colored light.

Classic Application

Colored Light on Skin

In the classic SpectroChrom method, color was applied through light. Colored glass filters placed in front of special lamps narrowed the light to a specific color range.

This colored light was then directed at specific parts of the body. The application followed fixed guidelines: color, body region, and duration were clearly described and coordinated.

The original irradiation plans according to Dinshah, which were developed specifically for this form of application, can now be viewed in full on the separate information platform spektrochrom.de. This requires free registration.

New Tools

Color Through the Eyes

The SpektroChrom color logic can also be used with glasses. This is not a break with the original method, but rather a contemporary translation and addition. While the classic application with its lamps and filters was location-bound, the glasses make access to color more mobile and suitable for everyday use.

Taking in colors through the eyes is an obvious approach: color is one of the most important qualities in our perception, and colored light is a natural part of our environment. Other players in the field also use this method—Syntonics is a well-known example of this, focusing on processes involved in vision.

Our approach follows a different focus: SpektroChrom color glasses are a new tool for a holistic color system. The method was originally developed for the application of colored light on the body. However, advances in filter technology have opened up entirely new fields of application.

The Colors

Matched to SpektroChrom

SpektroChrom® color glasses are consistently designed according to the original SpektroChrom color system. The twelve lens colors were not chosen at random or put together retrospectively, but are based precisely on the color logic of the SpektroChrom circle.

Each color has a fixed relationship to the others and is part of a coherent whole. This coordination ensures that the individual colors of the glasses do not only work on their own, but that the traditional system is taken up in its entirety and transferred into a new format.

The glasses do not replace the classic method, but rather serve as a tool that, like radiation therapy, can be used systemically and expands the range of possible applications.

In Use Today

Practice, Education, and Dialogue

Where SpektroChrom is used in practice, there is also a need for classification and exchange. On March 4, 2026, another online introductory webinar on SpektroChrom® will be held with Dr. Alexander Wunsch. The approximately 90-minute event will present the origin, structure, and current application of the system and address questions from the participants. (Workshop is in German) The webinar can be booked via our shop. If you read this post at a later date or the event is already fully booked, you will find information about other planned webinars on the same shop page as soon as new dates are announced.

Today, therapists work with SpektroChrom and continue to apply the color logic of the system in practice.

Color with a System

SpektroChrom is a historically developed color system with a clear structure and documented application. Our color glasses take up this color logic and translate it into a modern tool suitable for everyday use—without claiming to replace the classic method.

The scientifically organized, finely tuned color frequencies of the SpectroChrom system are precisely reproduced in our glasses, making the inner logic of this color system immediately accessible today.
